Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 90mm f/4 Close Focus, Cosina's Smallest M-Mount 90mm Yet, Ships Soon

Cosina has announced the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 90mm F4 Close Focus, a manual-focus lens for Leica M-mount rangefinders. The company calls it its smallest 90mm M-mount lens to date, with a barrel measuring 53.0mm in diameter and only 54.8mm in length from the mount, weighing 235g. It takes 43mm filters, a size class more commonly associated with normal or wide-angle primes than 90mm telephotos.

The optical formula uses 8 elements in 6 groups, with abnormal partial dispersion glass in 6 of those elements, aimed at minimizing axial chromatic aberration. Aperture range runs from f/4 to f/22 across 10 blades. Rangefinder-coupled focusing extends to 0.7m, with a tactile click at that point, while live view focusing can push closer to 0.5m for a 0.28x magnification ratio.

The lens ships with a dedicated metal hood, protruding about 9mm from the filter ring to limit viewfinder frameline interference, plus a hood cap. It will be available in silver and black finishes. The new 90mm costs $649 in the US (shipping starts late August 2026).
